APRIL GREETINGS

Riding at the front seat of the PUJ from Miagao to the city just this morning, it was so astounding seeing bridge construction and road widening done in lightning speed but in surgical precision. The rerouting path was so spacious and obviously provided with human if not logical consideration that the flow of traffic was so smooth and uninterruptible from both directions.

More astounding however was seeing as well those provincial jeepney drivers, although competing each other in picking up a roadside passenger, yet, they would act responsibly like true professionals as gross income was not in their priority but the riding public’s welfare.

But the most astounding of all was observing admirably during the entire trip that not one among those so-called flying coffin, would try to overtake another motorist along dangerous, blind curves, forcing itself between two vehicles at top speed to cut in.

And here in the city, it feels so wonderful seeing the streets and main thoroughfares free from gridlock, and all kinds of public and private transportation are in constant flow and motion heading downtown and back.

More wonderful to see are the diggings along sidestreets and all of affected road’s half portion, being immediately attended to and covered back and placed with proper neon warning sign or public information.

It is amazing to behold majority of the natives and visitors in Iloilo City are well-disciplined, since there are no carefree pedestrians dare to jaywalk as they obediently tread on a crossing lane.

It is more amazing to notice in awe city-loop PUJ drivers observing traffic rules and regulations like they do a law against murder, that until I reached my workplace I didn’t see a wayward jeepney swerving like a racecar driven by a Michael Schumacher.

What’s surprising upon sitting on my table is catching the most recent news about a Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, the one having charge of investigating about PDAF scam involving their fellow senators known as The Big Three and simply found them all not guilty.

But more surprising for the whole nation to hear about is the development regarding all the pending cases against the country’s most powerful heirs, the Marcos siblings.  It seems the courts handling their cases found them all not liable to return the loot or public money to the government for some reasons as the proverbial Fat Lady no longer sings.

But the most surprising is the current discovery that based on the pulse of the Filipino people through honest-to-goodness survey, frankly, my dear, all citizens don’t give a damn about the scam but they still love unconditionally Senators Bong, Jinggoy and Enrile.

Waa-hahaha, gotcha there, baby… You forgot? Happy April Fools’ Day!
